Italia!

I just had the very exciting experience of getting lost in Venice, something I highly recommend if you can do it. You will have a hard time finding something as rewarding as finding your way by yourself, plus it is beatuiful. We took the train to Venice this afternoon from Milan. In Milan we spant an exciting morning walking around the roof of the cathedral (link to come, I can't do it now). The Venice hostel is much nicer than the Milan one, and overall I like Venice much better too. Unfortunatly (ha!) we are on the way to Rome in the morning and I won't have any more time to explore. It is Carnival (link) in Venice right now, so it isn't uncommon to see extremely elegently dressed people, who are more than wiling to pose for pictures. So far my experience with the Italians has been wonderful. They are incredibly nice, and as one of my travel buddies sais "they really got your back" because if at a train or plane station, or on a bus or walking, they notice you are lost or confused, they will go out of their way to help you. I have found a bit of a problem with the language barrier though. For some reason I thought Spanish was much closser to Italian than it actually is. Some of the words are similar or the same, which is nice for words like "train" because people can just point. but othervise it is usually a combination of thier broken English and my broken Spanish that gets us to where we need to go.

Thats all for now. Chao!

Glad to know you made it there. I was wondering. Did you go to Sunday Mass at the Basilica? I am sure that any church over there is beautiful. I told Fr. Timmerman you were going to Venice. He said it is cold there this time of year. Was he right. Love you & take care. Mom
